Overview of Bachelor's Degree
The School of Computer Science provides a broad and flexible undergraduate
curriculum. In addition to the general university requirements in the humanities
and sciences, computer science students take eleven courses covering the
fundamentals of the discipline, eleven courses in mathematics; chemistry
and physics; beginning with calculus, and three electives chosen from computer
science courses offered at the senior level.
During their senior
year, students are required to complete a major design project as part
of two courses in software engineering. Students will have opportunities
to pursue their education beyond the classroom environment. For example,
each year the school fields a team to the regional programming contest
sponsored by ACM. When the team wins the contest, as it did in 1993, it
travels to the international contest to compete with the best teams in
the world.
Students have the opportunity to develop and practice oral and written
communications skills in required elective and computer science classes.
Many required computer science classes include the social context of computing
and professional ethics topics.
A total of 120 credit hours is required for the Bachelor of Science
in Computer Science degree, with a grade point average of 2.00 in OU coursework,
major coursework, and overall coursework.
The BS degree program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of
ABET
