Overview of Doctorate Program
Requirements for the PhD degree are set by the student's doctoral
committee in conformance with the current rules of the Graduate
College. A qualifying examination is required of all students.
In addition, every student is required to take a general examination
in his/her major field of study and the related areas. The intent of
the examination is to determine whether the student is qualified to
undertake a doctoral research program, and further, to reveal
deficiencies that may exist in his/her academic preparation for the
doctoral program.
