Welcome
to the School of Computer Science at the University of Oklahoma. We are
a dynamic and exciting academic unit housed within the College of
Engineering. We encourage you to find out more about our programs,
research activities and outreach through our Web pages. We also
encourage you to contact us and come visit us on campus.
Computer Science began at OU in the early 1970s, and has steadily grown in size
and reputation since that time. Our computer science degree programs are accredited
by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
In addition to the BS degree in Computer Science, we also collaborate with other academic units
and provide support for the BS degree in Computer Engineering, CS-related degree options
in industrial engineering and mathematics, and a minor in computer science. We also have
a strong comprehensive graduate program, offering the MS and PhD degrees in Computer Science
and have recently introduced an Accelerated Degree Program offering a BS, MS in Computer Science
and a BS, MS degree program in Computer Engineering and Computer Science.
Our graduates are highly sought after in both the private and public sectors.
Our alumni are very successful, holding positions at a variety of levels
in major corporations, small businesses, start-up software companies,
government agencies, and universities. We call on our alumni and friends to come
back to campus periodically through the CS Board of Advisors, which helps keep our programs
and initiatives relevant and fresh.
We have a strong nationally and internationally known computer science faculty
and have recently filled two open positions, which raised the number of full-time tenured
and tenure-track faculty to 15. In addition to our commitment to teaching, the Computer Science
Faculty are known for their research accomplishments and awards.
All faculty regularly publish their research findings in scholarly publications,
and externally funded research expenditures for Computer Science was about $1 million per year,
both in 2003 and 2004. Some faculty also are engaged in other creative activities,
including the pursuit of patents and other intellectual properties, technology transfer,
and start-up ventures.
We invite you to continue to explore our Website and contact us, Le Gruenwald or Deborah Trytten or any of the Faculty
or Staff if you have any questions or comments.
